BRCGS Packaging Materials Certification
The BRCGS Packaging Certification is a leading global brand and the first Standard in the world to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI) benchmarking committee. It’s why over 3,000 suppliers in over 80 countries worldwide have chosen to be certificated by BRCGS Global Standards.
This standard provides a framework for all types of packaging manufacturer to aid them in the manufacture of legal and safe packaging materials and to manage product quality to meet their customer requirements. This standard certification is recognised by retailers, food service companies, brand owners and manufacturers around the world when assessing the capabilities of their supply chain.
The Standard specifies the product safety, quality and operational criteria that must be in place within a packaging manufacturing organisation to fulfil the regulatory compliance obligations and protect the end user or consumer.
Scope
The standard scope covers the requirements for:
- production of packaging materials that are used in the production of, and filling operations for, food ( direct and indirect contact), non-food hygiene-sensitive consumer products (including cosmetics), raw materials, and other consumer products.
- prior operations such as production of packaging materials for conversion or printing
- operations that are supplying packaging material from stock where additional product processing or repacking occurs
- the production and supply of other materials that are unconverted or semi-converted and used or incorporated.
- Companies with ISO 9001 can be certified to these standards as they already meet many of the requirements of this standard.
The Standard is intended to assist sites and their customers to comply with legislative requirements for product safety. The Packaging regulations differs in detail worldwide and mainly focuses on packaging materials in contact with food where the packaging manufacturers are required to:
- produce packaging that does not have any hazardous risk to human health
- provide a processing environment where there is a minimal risks of product contamination
- use of non- injurious raw materials or ingredients to human health
- preserve, protect and contain products adequately throughout the supply chain and the life of the product
- ensure detail legal information about the product is presented to the consumer.
This standard assists packaging manufacturers in meeting these legal packaging requirements.
